Enjoy Animal Encounters at the Discovery Theater
Alpacas, owls, iguanas, and a certain precocious porcupine will star in the Prospect Park Zoo’s upcoming program, Animal Encounters, presented by zookeepers. Audience members can get a front-row view of the featured critter, and many presentations will offer an opportunity to touch the animal. “Previews” have begun on weekends in the zoo’s Discovery Theater at noon, 12:30, 2:30, and 3:00 p.m.
North American porcupine Brody is part of the zoo’s school for gifted critters, in training for the new program. This people-oriented prickler learns behaviors easily and takes morning walks on a leash with keepers Justine Wilber and Gwen Cruz. Until his debut in Animal Encounters, you can see him daily along the Discovery Trail.
Animal Encounters is free with zoo admission and officially opens at the zoo’s barn and theater on Friday, May 23. Throughout the summer, the program will be held Fridays through Mondays at select times to be posted at the zoo's main entrance.
