Queens Zoo Teaching Fellowships



The Education Department offers spring, summer, and fall fellowships to qualified college students, recent graduates or graduate students.  Teaching Fellows will develop and conduct tours and assist with outreach programs.  In addition, Fellows will work with the Curator to develop and oversee activities in the Discovery Center. Spring and fall fellows must be able to work 20 hours a week (including one weekend day) for approximately 20 weeks.  Summer fellows must be able to work 35 hours a week for 10 weeks.

Minority students are encouraged to apply!

Candidates should possess a strong background in one or more of these areas:

  • Zoology
  • Ecology
  • Biology
  • Education

Experience in teaching is highly desirable.  An interest in wildlife conservation and the ability to relate to children are essential.

In the letter of interest, specify whether you are applying for a fall, spring or summer fellowship. Send the materials at least two months prior to the start of the season for which you wish to apply. Spring fellowships run from mid January to early June. Fall fellowships run from late September to January. Summer fellowships run from mid June to early September.
