| Celebrate the Year of the Frog during Leap Day weekend, February 29 & March 1. Catch three frog-themed Wildlife Theater shows, “Pond Town,” “Mission Mosquito,” and “At the Hop.” Chat with zoo staff about poison dart frogs in the Rainforest, make amphibian art, and play leapfrog!
The Central Park Zoo’s Leap Day event celebrates the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ campaign highlighting 2008 as the Year of the Frog. This effort raises awareness about the amphibian extinction crisis—a crisis unprecedented since the age of the dinosaurs. To date, over 200 species of frogs, toads, and salamanders are extinct, and many more are endangered. The Wildlife Conservation Society is dedicated to helping save these species through events like Leap Day weekend and via conservation projects in amphibian habitats around the world.
