| Calling all friends of Gus, Ida, Tango, and Scrappy! The polar bears, penguins, and other residents of the Central Park Zoo need you!
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is looking for new volunteers who can donate their time and energy to New York’s beloved Central Park Zoo. Our invaluable docents learn all about the history and function of zoos, wildlife conservation efforts, and, of course, the animals of Fifth Ave.
As a volunteer, you’ll be an integral part of the daily workings of the Zoo, and will help further WCS’s mission to nurture our visitors’ appreciation for wildlife and wild places. Those selected will join a family of fellow volunteers, staff, and wildlife experts who share a passion for our natural world.
Volunteer responsibilities include:
-
Teaching schoolchildren and other visitors about animals and conservation
-
Giving guided tours and exhibit chats
-
Narrating sea lion and penguin feedings
All volunteers must complete an eight-session training course that takes place on Saturdays, beginning February 2. Prospective volunteers must interview before training begins. To schedule an interview, call 212-439-6539.
